Prosthesis

Gel: The prosthesis is made of a firm gel, which doesn’t leak when torn.

Surfaces: They can be straight, texturized, or made from polyurethane. The texturized and the polyurethane have been until recently the most used as they have less chance of the capsule contracting.

Shapes:

1. Round: flat, medium, high or very high. The higher ones have a greater projection but are smaller in diameter.

2. Tear shaped: The upper part is less dense than the lower part , for this reason it is called tear shaped.

After how much time should I change the prosthesis?
We use brands that allow us to change them in the case of rupture Therefore I advise you to have regular exams which allow for you to see the prosthesis. Whilst they are still intact they can remain in place, without the need to replace them.

What is capsule contracture?
It means an enrichment of the capsule, which forms around the prosthesis, making it harder and sometimes changing its shape.
It can happen only unilaterely.
In this case it must to be replaced.
Texturized and polyurethane prosthesis have a low risk of contracture.
