Breast reduction and breast lift surgery

Breast reduction and breast lift surgery

This surgery is on the most common cosmetic surgeries, because it doesn’t only improve the appearance of the breasts but is also indicated as a preventative measure for problems that are caused by very large breasts.
The most common questions asked are as follows:

01)
· Q: DOES BREAST ENHANCEMENT SURGERY LEAVE SCARS?

· A: Thankfully this surgery allows us to disguise any scar tissue (in “T”, in “L”, “I” around the nipple, etc). To know more about the scar development, we will now talk about the different periods through which the scar tissue will pass:

a) SHORT TERM: This is for the first month. During this stage the scar tissue will barely be visible. A few cases might have a slight reaction to the stitches or curative.

b) MEDIUM TERM: This is from the second until the 12th month. During this period there will be a natural thickening of the scar tissue as well as a change in the color tone, going from “red” to “brown” which will slowly begin to lighten.

c) LONG TERM: This is from 12 months to 18 months. During this period the scar tissue will start to lighten and be closer to its’ final appearance. Any evaluation of the final result should be made at this stage.

02)
· Q: WHERE WILL THE SCARS BE LOCATED?

· A In regard to the scar tissue, there are many different options, all depending on the type of breast, size and quantity of skin to be removed. It could be suggested in a “L” shape, in an “I” shape, around the nipple area, or in an inverted “T”.

03)
· Q: I HAVE HEARD IT MENTIONED THAT SOME PATIENTS ARE LEFT WITH VERY VISIBLE SCARRIG, WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN?

· A: There are patients who have a tendency to have hypertrophic or keloid scarring. This tendency however will usually show up during the first consultation. People who have very fair skin will have much less of a tendency to this type of scarring.

04)
· Q: CAN THIS TYPE OF SCARRING BE CORRECTED?

· A: Nowadays there are many different ways of improving “ugly” scars, both by surgery and in the clinic. We must make clear that nothing should be done to the scar during the medium term (2 months to 1 year) as it is not yet the final result.

05)
· Q: HOW WILL MY NEW BREASTS LOOK AND FELL?

· A: The breasts might be smaller, if this is the case, they can be remodelled using surgery, however "your new breasts" will go through different phases:

a) SHORT TERM: For the first month. During this period, the breasts will already look a lot better, but the planned result will not yet be apparent, because until they get their permenant appearance "small defects" will appear (inevitable in all cases), which tend to disappear with time. Remember that generally no breasts will be "perfect" in the short term.

b) MEDIUM TERM: This is from the second until the eighth month. During this period, the breast will start to show more of its permenant appearance. It is common during this period for the nipple area to be sensitive or lack sensitivity.

c) LONG TERM: This is from the eighth until the eighteenth month. This is the period when the breast will show its' permenant aspect (scar tissue, shape, thickness, volume and sensitivity). The elasticity of the skin is of great importance in the final result. It is during this period that we generally photograph cases that have been operated on, in order to compare them with "the before surgery" of each pacient.

06)
· Q: HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO ACHIEVE THE PERMENANT RESULT?

· A: Only between 12 months to 18 months.

07)
· Q: IF I GET PREGNANT WILL THE FINAL RESULT REMAIN OR WILL IT CHANGE?

· A: As long as you control your pregnancy weight the result will remain. When dealing with very large breasts, which have been reduced, lactation can be harmed. In the case of small to medium reductions, lactation is preserved.

08)
· Q: WILL IT HURT AFTER THE SURGERY?

· A: Generally not, if you obey all the doctors’ instructions, particularly about arm movement and not overdoing it for =-the first few days.

09)
· Q: IS THE OPERATION DANGEROUS?

· A: Breast surgery rarely has any serious complications. This is due to the careful preparation of each patient. In fact it is no more dangerous than lets say; going by plane, driving a car or even crossing a road.

10)
· Q: WHAT TYPE OF ANESTHESIA IS USED?

· A: Local with assisted sedation or an epidural.

11)
· Q: HOW LONG WILL THE SURGERY TAKE?

· A: It depends on the type of breasts, but generally around 3 hours..

12)
· Q: FOR HOW LONG WILL IT HAVE TO STAY IN HOSPITAL?

· A: Usually for 12 hours.

13)
· Q: ARE CURATIVES USED?

· A: Yes. Curatives that have been adapted by each breast type will be taken off after 24 hours and a bra will be used for 30 days.

14)
· Q: WHEN ARE THE STITCHES TAKEN OUT?

· A: They are taken out, painlessly, after around 1 to 2 weeks.

15)
· Q: WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO TAKE MY FIRST FULL BATH?

· A: After 24 hours.

16)
· Q: WHEN CAN I GO BACK TO EXERCISING?

· A: Usually after a month.
